Movie / TV What's the last movie you watched

If you want a laugh, please watch some Communist Chinese war movies on Youtube. I came across a few last night while searching for something and watched about a half an hour of two different ones.

The propaganda is laid on so thick they are hilarious. There was one where the Chicoms are fighting the Nationalists. The commies are kind, smart, brave, of the highest morals and can do summersaults in combat. The Nationalists are unmotivated and not very impressive.

The other one and my fave was when the Chicoms try to take a hill being held by entrenched US Army troops in the Korean war. Their brave and seasoned leader tells the troops that even though the Americans have better weapons and hold the high ground, they will be victorious because of blah, blah.

The American troops appear almost comatose. They stand in their trenches being shot dead and allow the Chinese troops to get halfway up the hill before they even realize that they should respond. LOL! Did I mention this is in broad daylight and they are dug in on a steep fortified hill? Imagine the murderous fire that would have been poured down on the commies from the get-go if there was a semblance of reality. Good times! Check one out!

Pretty much a UFO in these days:

"A beautitiful day in the neighborhood."

Inspired by true events where a troubled reporter meets Fred Rogers, the creator and animator of a famous children´s program.

I know I watched it as a kid, but I mainly remembered the introduction, that Tom Hanks remarkably performs at the beginning of the film. I had forgotten about the little characters that Rogers used to forward his message of understanding and kindness.

Pretty much liked it...as slow as it is, it remains eventful without falling into any excessive pathos.

No time to die, that could have been two movies easy enough. Nice ending for Craig. Hopefully they don't totally cock up the series. The new 007 didn't strike me as being capable of carrying a franchise.

Totally meta...
Will be on that like a tramp on a bag of chips.

Also, gives me flashbacks to when Abed watched every Nicolas Cage move in a couple of days -

Watching Operation Red Sea currently. Basically CCP Navy Seals. Struggling to finish it. I already have 2 hours invested. Ok, 17 minutes left.

Whew! That was exhausting.

Yay! The Chicoms save the world!

Dune (2021)

Enjoyed it very much but would be lying if I said I followed fully what was going on (Have never read the book and tried to watch the Lynch version once but turned it off). A little baffled by some of the build up for it like characters getting their own posters but having screen time that could be counted in single digit minutes but do understand that this is essentially the first half of the novel so imagine they'll get more screen time in the sequel. I believe the Lynch version is on Netflix so tempted to give that another go, as well as getting a copy of the novel.

Same. Never read the book and was not very impressed with the original movie. But the new one was quite enjoyable.

Reading into the fourth book again (God Emperor) just a few days finishing the third book in the original trilogy. Watching the Lynch movie will definitely put a weird bend on things!

I am always amazed how much Herbert foresees current events, and that such insights have come up each time I’ve read the books over the last thirty five years!

I've seen it twice already, both times with some people who didn't read the books. I basically had to explain several things during the movie and after it, so people could make full sense of what was going on. Lynch did a much better job at explaining background and nuance, but he used narration for that. There is a limit just how much details you can convey about a complex universe like Dune in a regular movie. I always thought the best way to fully realize Dune on screen would be HBO quality GoT-like series.

From memory, I think the opening five or ten minutes of the Lynch version being so heavy on exposition (Explaining planets and families and guilds and titles and such) is what put me off it - I just didn't take it all in. The Vilneuve version was more like it being slowly dripfed throughout the film. I'll likely give Lynch another go in the next few days.

The Matrix: Resurrections.

Your experience will very much depend on your expectations. If you expect first Matrix-like mind blower and serious reboot of the Matrix franchise, you will be most likely disappointed. The movie is more like a short story set in the Matrix universe, clever, funny and surprisingly lighthearted. It doesn't take itself serious, to the point, that at times, it feels like a very well made parody of the original Matrix. Lower you expectations, come with an open mind and you will enjoy yourself.

Eyes wide shut, Stanley Kubrick with Tom and Nicole…

It was more than okay-ish, bit of a « weird » story but pleasantly acted and directed. I wouldn’t expect anything else from the one who directed mostly masterpiece.

Last of his movie before his passing. Some nudity and I’m the last one to complain about it, especially « flat chested » Nicole but interesting nonetheless. I nodded off by the end of the movie a bit, not because it’s boring but those days are busy and long.

8/10.

A 180min long post-credits scene.

It felt cheap, uninspired an lazy.
