I'm working on a memoir typed onto (a now yellowed and decomposing) foolscap 1951 by Lt Mann, 2nd mate of SS Vyner Brooke (built at Leith). He called it 'One Jump Ahead'. It deals with his escape from Singapore through Dutch East Indies. I hope to self publish Lt Mann's account so that it is better known (I've lodged a digital copy with Imp War Museum and the Australian Memorial).
It is a long shot - but I wonder if you know where I might find an image of Vyner Brooke for use in the book. She was bombed and sunk off Banka Island loaded with Australian nurses who were mostly massacred when they came ashore. A few survived and became subject of the book 'White Coolies'.
I see there is an image on this site -- I now must locate owner of copyright. Any ideas most welcome.

I haven't been able to locate any copyright owner of the image on this site mate. It appears to be in the public domain from sites I have found it in. @28TH61ST+ONE or @28th61st may be able to assist you as he is the resident guru on these matters ;)

Thanks BravoZulu, been in touch with the gent, all sorted.

Re the image of SS Vyner Brooke. It is property of Sarawak Steamship co. of Kutching, Sarawak, Malaysia. They gave me permission to use the image for "One Jump Ahead" by Mann and Nicholson. The fee was two copies of the new book for their library. The book is now available on Amazon. I've since lodged the original yellowed foolscap manuscript of Lt Mann's memoir with the Australian War Memorial archives as the story concerns the fate of many Australian nurses murdered by Japanese infantry as the survivors of the bombed Vyner Brooke struggled ashore on Banka Island.
Thanks for your help with my original post.
