They all appear to be the same class, why is the one in front longer?
U.S. Navy Destroyer Division Six, Destroyer Squadron Three (DesDiv 6, DesRon 3) at San Diego, California (USA), in October 1941. Ships are (from inboard): USS Clark (DD-361), Squadron flagship; USS Case (DD-370), Division flagship; USS Cummings (DD-365); USS Shaw (DD-373); USS Tucker (DD-374). Note that these destroyers are painted in at least two different camouflage schemes. A tuna boat is passing in the background.

USS Clark is a destroyer leader and a Porter class and is a bigger vessel, the others are all Mahan class destroyers.

Roza Georgiyevna Shanina 3 April 1924 – 28 January 1945 was a Soviet sniper during World War II who was credited with fifty-nine confirmed kills, including twelve soldiers during the Battle of Vilnius.
She became the first servicewoman of the 3rd Belorussian Front to receive the Order of Glory. Shanina was killed in action during the East Prussian Offensive while shielding the severely wounded commander of an artillery unit.
