The soldier stole an armored personnel carrier from Fort Pickett before driving it more than 60 miles down two highways to Richmond, where he eventually stopped and was arrested. Dozens of police vehicles, armed officers and a helicopter spent two hours pursuing the vehicle in scenes that onlookers compared to video game Grand Theft Auto. With authorities have not identified the arrested man, he is believed to be a Virginia Army National Guard Lieutenant commanding an engineering battalion at Fort Pickett.

A ex-soldier stole an an armored vehicle in San Diego in 1995 and went on a rampage, crushing cars, light poles etc. The police had to use deadly force to stop him.
