Lance Corporal 23908253 William Henry GILLESPIE, 8th County Tyrone Battalion. He was shot dead by a PIRA sniper while on mobile patrol at Killyliss, near Dungannon,County Tyrone on the 20th May 1972 aged 32. At rest in Ballygawley Churchyard, County Tyrone.

20 May 1972. 23 year old L/Cpl Henry Gillespie single from Ballygawley was shot dead by the IRA on his Land Rover near Dungannon. He was a four man mobile patrol in one vehicle when they were attacked as they travelled along the Ballygawley to Dungannon road by two gunmen lying in wait at Killyliss. One gunman open fire with a high velocity rifle and the other with a sub-machine gun. He was taken mortally wounded to South Tyrone Hospital but died later. The patrol returned fire but hits were claimed. He had been in the UDR for one year, previously served in the Irish Guards for 6 years.
