Private William BEDDOW No. 29209 Royal Defence Corps

Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 7th November 1914 and was posted as Private 298 National Reserve, No3 Company, 4th King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He had previously served with the 1st Oxford Light Infantry. He gave his date of birth as 7th November 1865 and was living with his wife Catherine at 3 Greyhound Passage, Chester Street, Shrewsbury, occupation hairdresser. On the 29th April 1918 he was transferred to 330rd Royal Defence Corps and then on the 9th December 1916 he was posted to No337th Protection Coy, Royal Defence Corps. He was on a Medical Board 27 May 1917 held at the Military Hospital, Shrewsbury and was discharged unfit on the 29th May 1917 suffering from myalgia aged 62. His complaint originated at Knockaloe, Isle of Man December 1916 as the result of exposure on ordinary military service.
