Some notes from what remains of his army record. He first joined up 4th June 1898 and was posted on the 3rd September 1898 the 2nd King's Shropshire Light Infantry depot aged 18 years and 4 months. Prior to enlistment he was a farm labourer. He was serving with the Militia, 3rd Shropshire Light Infantry. He fought in the Boer War and on the 17th November 1902 he transferred to Army Reserve Section B on the termination of his period of Army Service. he re-engaged at Private 5632 for a further period of four years in the Army Reserve Section D on the 4th June 1910. He was discharged from the army on the 3rd June 1914 on the termination of his engagement in Section D. He had served 11 years and 199 days. His father was called N H Bedwell of 13 Irish Street, Shrewsbury and his wife was called Sarah nee Farr whom he married on the 10th August 1903 at the Registry Office. He re-joined on the 11th August 1914 as private 5622 King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He had previously served with the K.S.L.I. his engagement had expired. On the 22nd February 1917. He was now aged 36 years and 209days. On the 22nd February 1917 he was transferred to the Loyal North Lancaster Regiment as Private 26214. The 19th November 1917 transferred to the Army Service Corps as Private 464128. Compulsory transferee to the 18th Gloucestershire Regiment as Private 204722 on the 16th July 1918. On the 26th August 1918 compulsory transferre to the Royal Army Service Corps as a Loader as Private T/439842. He was being treated at The Welsh Metropolitan War Hospital, Glamorgan also known as War Hospital, Whitechurch, Glamorgan On the 3rd April 1919 he was discharged from the army as no longer physically fit for war service and was discharged to the County Asylum, Shrewsbury. He was suffering from general paralysis of the insane aggravated by war service. His wife Sarah was living at 3, Hall Court Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury
