Ralph John DEE, Sapper 42073, 70th Field Company, Royal Engineers killed in action near Bethune, 8 December 1915 age 19. He was the son of Frederick William and Annie Eliza who in 1901 were living as a family in Star Lane, Avening. In 1911 he father was a carpenter and Inn keeper of the Cross Inn, Avening, Ralph was a gardener aged 14. His father was granted a war gratuity on the 2nd March 1916, revised on the 18th July 1919. Commemorated on a family memorial in Holy Trinity churchyard, Avening, Gloucestershire. At rest in British Cemetery, Le Touret, France
