Norman Ernest BRATT. Sergeant Air Gunner, 1576943 of 617 Squadron, attached to 10 Operational Training Unit (10 OTU) Royal Air Force Abingdon

Born 1920 to Arthur and Olive Bratt of Abbey Hulton, Stoke-on-Trent.

He was crew of a Whitley V BD 281, Bomber which was on day operation called Exercise Tucker 24 June 1942 which was an army cooperation exercise involving no. 685 Amphibious Warfare Company, Royal Engineers. Dived to near ground level in a mock attack on a bridge, but whilst climbing away the port wing struck a tall tree. Out of control, the bomber crashed 1110 at Tythrop House on the NW side of Kingsey and a little over 6 miles SW from Aylesbury Buckinghamshire. The crew perished at the scene. Died 24 June 1942 aged 22.

At rest in St Mary Churchyard Bucknall, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.
