Extended Description
John HUGHES. Private 1545, H Company, 3rd Australian Infantry He was born at Bendigo, Victoria and enlisted at Kensington, New South Wales 28th August 1914 aged 39, occupation, miner. He embarked at Sydney on H.M.A.T. A14 Buripides 20th October 1914. He was wounded in action at the Dardanelles on the 10th May 1915 he was admitted into No 2 General Hospital, Cairo with shrapnel woundsto his right thigh which he received in action at Gallipoli. There are no follow up records as to what happend to him as to his treatment.
He was again wounded in action at the Dardanelles 10 May 1915, gunshot wound to his left arm which was broken. At some stage he was invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship Dunluce Castle where he was admitted into Military Hospital Cottonera, Malta 12th August 1915 Died at Cottonera Military Hospital Malta from gunshot wound to his left arm 14th August 1915.

John Hugh McRAE. Trooper 724, 1st Australian Light Horse. Born at Windsor, Victoria, Australia to William Hugh and Mary McRae, of Inverness Barellan, New South Wales. Died 15th August 1915 aged 22.

Eugene PAILLARD. Private 2002, 5th 5th Reinforcements1st Battalion Australian Infantry. Born in France (location not known) Jules Victor and Mararget Jane Paillard.

Joined up 30 January 1915 aged 20 years, occupation blacksmith.
Joined his unit in Gallipoli 5 August 1915, The 8 August 1915 he received a bullet wound in action to a thigh (which one, not recorded). Invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship Dunluce Castle, disembarking at Malta 12 August 1915 and same day admitted into a hospital in Valletta, possible Cottonera Military Hospital. Died of septicaemia following wounds in hospital 14th August 1915 aged 22

His brother Lionel also fought for their country.

Lionel Paillard served as Pte 95346, 19th Bn Australian Army Joined up 12 Feb 1915 aged 18 years and 6 months. Fought and was wounded in France 3 May 1917, Gunshot wound left arm. Treated in Suffolk Hospital. Discharged fit for war servive and returned to his unit in France 20 July 1917. Gassed in France 10 October 1918, treated in England, 5 March 1919 posted back to Australian, and discharged on termination of contract of enlistment 25 June 1919.
