James SHERRATT. Private 242643, 1/5th York and Lancaster Regiment. formerly Private 5728, Northumberland Fusiliers.

Son of George and Harriett Sherratt of The Mason’s Arms, High Street, Bucknall.

Enlisted age 23 years and 8 months 22 March 1916, occupation, mould maker in a pottery. Embarked for BEF, France 7 July 1916

Killed in action in France 9 October 1917 aged 26. His mother was granted a war gratuity 4 September 1918 revised 11 November 1919.

Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

Commemorated on a family headstone in St Mary Churchyard Bucknall, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.
