To the dear memory of Hu Robert WALLACE, Born 21 April 1899 at English Street Downpatrick only son of Colonel, The Right Honourable Robert Hu Wallace and Caroline Wilhelmina Wallace nee Twigg of Myra Castle. His birth name was registered Hu Robert Wallace.
First Rear Commodore, Irish Cruising Club. Served at sea with the Royal Navy (VR) during the Great War. In his yacht Marie of 5 tons he sailed to Sweden and back for his single handed voyage from Brightlingsea Essex to Ardglass in 1928. He was awarded the Claymore Cup by the Royal Cruising Club. He was lost at sea off Carlingford, June 29th 1930 aged 31 while sailing alone in a Canoe Yawl from Kingstown to Strangford Lough. Hugh Robert Wallace at one time lived at Claneboye, County Down. On the 2nd March 1918 his rank was Midshipman on HMS Shark, This tablet is in Down Cathedral, Downpatrick, Northern Ireland
