F085 THOMAS GEORGE CURTIS. Ordinary Seaman, C/JX279009, HMS Cleopatra. Born 7 October 1908 at Farnham, Surrey to William and Sarah Jane Curtis. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 55 West Street, Farnham. Died 11th February 1942 aged 33 years on board his ship in Malta as the result of bombing. Cleopatra was hit by a 500kg bomb from JU 88 bomber which passed through the forward structure and exploded, killing or mortally injuring twenty of the crew.



F085 ERIC CHARLES JEX, Master-at-Arms, C/M39731 Royal Navy on HMS Cleopatra. Born 31 May 1904 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk to Charles John and Maud Mary Jex, nee Smith. Husband of Lily Jex, nee Barrett of Weymouth, Dorset. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 3 Denmark Place, Kitchener Road, Great Yarmouth. Enlisted 2 January 1923 on HMS Pembroke II as L14274, civilian occupation, seaman with the Merchant Marine. Died 11th February 1942 aged 37 years on board his ship in Malta as the result of bombing.
He was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.



F085 CHARLES HENRY KEMP. Able Seaman C/JX156367 Royal Navy on HMS Cleopatra. Born 31 August 1921 at Kessingland, Suffolk. He may have been the son of Frederick and Gertrude Annie nee Wright. Died 11th February 1942 aged 20 on board his ship in Malta as the result of bombing.


F085 LEONARD FRANCIS PHILLIPS. Ordinary Seaman C/JX290789 Royal Navy on HMS Cleopatra. Born 22 July 1921 at Bromsgrove, Worcestershire to William and Gertrude M Phillips nee Hunt. Died 11th February 1942 aged 20 years on board his ship in Malta as the result of bombing.



F085 DEREK JOELL. Able Seaman C/JX158038 Royal Navy on HMS Decoy (H75). Born 18 August 1921 at Sheffield, Yorkshire to Amy Randall, of Sheffield. Died 12th February 1942 aged 20 years at the H.M.Dockyard, Malta as the result of an all-day onslaught of enemy bombing on Malta Convoy.


F085 ROBERT PARKS McCONNELL, (M.B.E). Leading Seaman, C/JX126308, HMS Decoy (H 75). Born 8 January 1910 to Alexander and Jane McConnell, nee Parks of Aintree, Liverpool. 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings 15 Biance Street, Bootle, Lancashire. Enlisted 20 February 1926 on HMS Impregnable as Boy 2nd, civilian occupation, van boy. Died 12th February 1942 aged 32 years at the HM Dockyard as the result of an all-day onslaught of enemy bombing on Malta Convoy.

His Majesty has been graciously pleased to approve the following Awards. The Medal of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire For courage and coolness when H.M.S. Hostile was mined: Leading Seaman Robert Parks McConnell, C/JX.126308, H.M.S. Hostile.
