E53 ALFRED APPLETON, CHARLES BELLAMY, AMBROSE ASHLEY MATTHEWS

E053 Alfred APPLETON. Private 9957, 2nd, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, landed sick 12th and died 13th December 1914, aged 24 years. Native of Manchester. His stepfather William, granted a war gratuity 17 September 1915. His brother John granted a war gratuity 21 January 1916 and his widow Laura Smith was granted a war gratuity 15 August 1916. She had her gratuity revised 16 February 1920 also on the same day Fanny Appleton was granted a war gratuity.
Originally interred in Plot O Grave 1 Rinella Military Cemetery re-interred in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta in 1978.

E053 Charles BELLAMY. Lance-Corporal 10658, 2nd King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, landed sick, died 15th December 1914 aged 27 years in the Military Hospital at Cottonera of pneumonia. Native of Grimsby, Yorkshire. Son William Thomas and Jane Elizabeth Bellamy of 148 Porter Street, Hull His father was granted a war gratuity 22 October 1915, revised 18 September 1919.
Originally interred in Plot O Grave 1 Rinella Military Cemetery re-interred in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta in 1978.

E053 Ambrose Ashley MATTHEWS. Sapper 9820, Royal Engineers. Enlisted 15 December 1914 occupation prior to enlistment, engine driver. Died 15th December 1914 aged 36 years in the Military Hospital at Cottonera, Malta. Son of Henry and Elizabeth Matthews of Shanklin, Isle of Wight. His father was granted a war gratuity 22 February 1915 revised 31 July 1919.
Originally interred in Rinella Military Cemetery re-interred in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta in 1978.
