E053 Alfred APPLETON. Private 9957, 2nd, King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, landed sick 12th and died 13th December 1914, aged 24 years. Native of Manchester. His stepfather William, granted a war gratuity 17 September 1915. His brother John granted a war gratuity 21 January 1916 and his widow Laura Smith was granted a war gratuity 15 August 1916. She had her gratuity revised 16 February 1920 also on the same day Fanny Appleton was granted a war gratuity.
Originally interred in Plot O Grave 1 Rinella Military Cemetery re-interred in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta in 1978.
