Days after the Christchurch Mosques massacre, some amongst the Muslims community in NYC have decided to « patrol » around mosque at crowded times (Friday noon prayer particularly) as a deterrent to potential shooter or terrorist.

However, not everybody in this community agrees with this; as for some it’s the job of the NYPD, and secondly because some Muslims worshippers are suspicious of authorities.

It’s legal just as long as they are not armed and stay out of the job of the police.

This is a difficult issue, especially as there is so much suspicion focused on all Muslim communities. I would ask this question , if they were Christians would we be so concerned?.

Here in Manchester, UK, the Jewish community employ civilian security at schools etc and nobody bats an eye lid.

Probably because there is more a consensus about Jewish school needing some sort of protection and security around. I mean amongst the Jewish people in Great Britain.

This patrol thing doesn’t seem to please everyone amongst American Muslims for the reasons mentioned in the article. I’m not talking the far-right weirdos for whom this is the Sharia being applied in the heart of NYC.
