if no one gets it right i will post a clue but will deduct 100 points.

Miles Monitor, used by the Fleet Air Arm.
Browning Monitor light automatic rifle.
Monitor class of ships, simply a floating platform with one or more big guns.

If your correct Derrick, you will be rich, RICH! beyond your wildest dreams I tells ya bou;

Right lines Derrick but the monitors were used before the first world war. :D.

O.K., D_P, how about these ?

Hawker Hurricane.
German 20mm AA. gun called Wirbelwind (Whirlwind).

The link word would then be 'Winds'

:?: :?:
Derrick.

The British had two monitors, Abercrombie and Roberts, available in WWII, built after WWI, one of them using guns from an earlier monitor. I think it would be safe to say monitors were available in WWI.

Sorry D_P, I'm confused now.
Are you saying there is more than one answer, but we have to get the one you have in mind?
