Adding tags to your photo,video or forum posts is a very important thing, it enables another user or yourself to simply click on a tag and it will produce a search list of all items containing that tag name.

As an example I have added a tag called 'shilka' to this post. you will see that when you click it not only will it provide you with a list of photos but will also include threads,posts including this one you are reading.

Yep makes things easier to find and with only one click.
Dont forget as you are adding tags, if they already exist they will appear for you to click/ no need to add a different variation of the tag if one already exists

Although the examples above show a list of existing tags being produced it may be that your tag is new and as such no list will be shown so just go ahead and create it.

Just a point to note that when you insert a tag as you type your word a list of tags already available will appear below as seen on above screen shots and on this one

Just take a few seconds to see if the word you are looking for is there, if so then choose it from the drop down list. This helps to keep keywords standardised and will result in your post, media or video being found if a viewer chooses to click a particular tag to see all the results.

What do tags do exactly?

Well aside from allowing another user to simply click a tag and group all post and uploads together on site, it also assists on the search engines.
Google (for example) will find the tags and group the results together so when the searcher clicks the result (in their search results) they will be taken to a page of all posts and uploads tagged with that particular 'tag'

So if you want members/users or internet searchers to find your posts/uploads easily its worth taking the time to tag properly as above instructions.

there is no point you seeing a tag in the drop down box that says "gun" and then deciding that you want to use "guns" the best option is use the word "gun", however if you want to change the tag to "guns" (because you think it is more appropriate) then contact an admin who will change the tag site wide for you (if they agree of course), it will not matter if there are thousands of tags to change because it can be done with a few clicks.

When tags are created a "Tag cloud" is generated and can be found in the search area here
https://www.militaryimages.net/tags/ you can simply choose a tag of click 'search tags'

The more bold a tag is suggests it is a popular or "heavy" tag and used a lot
The better you tag a post or media item the easier it is to find.

Here is the tag cloud mentioned above, the bolder the tag the stronger the presence of that keyword

Just a point to note for members/visitors following tags.

The results you get may not be comprehensive, clearly it will depend on whether a tag has been created by the user. There will very likely be lots more results so if you want to be sure that you have found all you are looking for I would suggest you also do a site search.
