PT forces are using the DPM(jungle and desert versions) camo in Portugal, the new Camo is testing in some units and oversew, using multicam in Africa

Multicam is issued to Special Forces.
DPM will be the Barracks camo , and the new camo, the operacional pattern

Again.Why DPM in Bks and a complete different pattern in the field? Why not just one pattern for all activities?(SOF being the exception.They always do their own thing no matter what Army you serve in)

Cheaper and more uniform.

The DPM uniform was introduced in 2004 and is crap...
Due to large numbers still in stock it will be used mainly by the new recruits.

Ah.So regulars will use the new stuff and recruits the old until stocks run out.That makes more sense. The new pattern is very nice.PT should be proud of it.

Or maybe they keep the production of the cheap DPM for recruits and other more physical demanding courses.

With the SCAR's etc coming to service, is the Portuguese Army looking at a standardized optic for the general service versions of the rifles or just specific units and irons for others?

Or just issue recruits part worn kit in the new pattern.Seriously.Economies of scale will deal with the costs associated with introducing a new pattern and design. I mean we did it here and we spend less than any other country in Europe on our Forces for crying out loud.. Having multiple patterns for different units/recruits etc is just nuts and has to cost more.
