Imperial Japan:
"Kōtetsu (甲鉄, literally "Ironclad"), later renamed Azuma (東, "East"), was the first ironclad warship of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was built in Bordeaux, France in 1864 for the Confederate States Navy under the cover name Sphynx and commissioned as CSS Stonewall. Japan acquired her from the USA in February 1869. She was designed as an armored ram but also carried three guns: one 21 cm (8.3 in) and two 17 cm (6.7 in) pieces in armored turrets. She had a decisive role in the Naval Battle of Hakodate Bay in May 1869, which marked the end of the Boshin War, and the completion of the military phase of the Meiji Restoration."

Battleship Andrea Doria at Trieste in 1937. The Duilio-class battleship Andrea Doria was taken in charge of the San Marco shipyard of the CRDA on 8 April 1937, to be thoroughly rebuilt ("modernisation" seems reductive, as the scale of the process was very large and the majority of the ship's very structures was removed and/or replaced).

The rebuilds were a large waste of time, money and resources that almost certainly would have been better spent on modernising other components of Italy's navy. None of the Andrea Doria rebuilds performed well during the sea wars for the Mediterranean.

Interesting design. Three main guns is a lot of artillery for a modern warship, isn't it? I'm loving it.

The Italians just love their Oto Melara! They use them mainly as a CIWS armament. With the latest guided rounds they have greater range than smaller calibres and are very accurate with a rate of fire up to 120rpm. The Horizon class have a 3rd mount on the hangar roof

Amerigo Vespucci was second ship of the two ships project, the first, Cristoforo Colombo, was put into service in 1928 and was used until 1943. After World War II, the ship was handed over to the Soviet Union as part of the war reparations, was renamed Dunay and was in service until 1959. Then she was destroyed in a fire in 1963.
