The first ship in a new class of advanced nuclear “hunter-killer” submarines, USS Thresher (SSN-593) was lost at sea near Cape Cod on 10 April 1963. Thresher imploded because leaking water likely shorted out electrical systems, leading to a loss of propulsion.

Distinguished Falkland's veteran, the former Type 21 frigate HMS Ambuscade (F172), (Now Pakistan's PNS Tariq) will be transferred to a new maritime centre on the Clyde in Scotland, where she was originally built and turned into a museum.

Carriers of this class were required to make good speed astern, to allow landing planes over the bow and launching over the stern if necessary.
