Hi Gunners!

Did you serve in the many Arty. Regts. that were part of Dortmund Garrison? I'm trying to compile as much information as possible about the barracks, who served there as part of BAOR, the former Occupation Forces (many infantry units formed in Dortmund) and of course when the barracks were occupied by the Werhmacht prior and during WW2. The Flak Regts. defending Dortmund, the many other troops and the Luftwaffe in Richthofen Kaserne, Dortmund's first Airport (Napier Barracks). Obviously the other barrack's names would of been different during Werhmacht's presence.

So, any information great or small, would be most appreciated. Photos, stories etc. etc.

Hopefully I may then have as much info to turn into a web-site or even a publication? what ever the outcome, I need your help.

I have a fair bit of info on Napier having served there and I was initially going to do just this barrack's history, but I think Dortmund's past stretches further and far beyond this former airfield and I'm sure former gunners of Dortmund would agree!

Regards, Napier

Came across your site whilst taking a trip down memory lane! I was stationed at Ubique barracks with 2nd Field Regiment RA ( Manchester Gunners ) from 1976 - 1978. What info do you want - for instance, I remember that 22nd Light Regiment RA were just up the road from us, but I cant recall the barracks name. I think there were half a dozen or so regiments dotted around the same area. You will have to ask specific questions, otherwise my fading memory will struggle to recollect details and i might start to waffle!

Couldnt nuy coffee if single ?

Hi Andy, when I was in BAOR, things like Coffee, Tea Whiskey, and Cigs, where still on the Ration list,
And NO this wasn't in the 40's it was from the 70's to the mid 80's, it was suppost to stop Black marketing
as the price of a bottle of good single malt was 1/4 the price in the NAFFI compaired with the German shops.

Oh yeah mate rationing was in force when I was in Germany in 83 but we could buy coffee. Are we saying singlies couldnt buy coffee because of rationing or for some other reason?.

Bombardier, in the Gallery in my photos (Military Documents) the first photo is of the ration card. Coffee was only issued to married personnel and children over the age of 12. Not giving singles coffee meant they had to buy there drinks from the NAFFI i.e. more profits.

Now that makes sense silky (Y)

Rationing

My Brother in law used to trade his free issues from the M.R.S. with married pads as they were only issued to the single blokes.

Man, you poor bastards should've joined the US ARMY!! He had all the coffee we could get our hands on, compliments of our mess hall staff. And that was in Butzbach from '78-'80!!
