VF-21 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 14 (CVW-14) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constallation (CV-64) from 1985 to 1989. The F-14A 161606 crashed off Japan after an engine fire on 29 June 1993, the crew ejected safely.
