Alternative Accommodation of the Constitutional Organs of the Federal Republic of Germany (Out of Service)

The bunker of the federal government inside the valley of the river Ahr has been the most top secret building in the history of the federal Republic of Germany. Its planning has been realized since 1950.

The federal Chancellor Dr. Konrad Adenauer has been included since its beginning. The German ministry of the interior acted as central coordinator of this project. It decided in favour for two railway tunnels of the former, unfinished strategic railway through the valley mountain range of the river Ahr, after a site reconnaissance lasting for years.

These railway tunnels were extended and converted into the so called “Alternative Accommodation of the Constitutional Organs of the Federal Republic of Germany in a Period of Crisis and wartime”.

Decon equipment (I know the Zodiac pretty well  we had quite a few days of WWIII sim, then I had to wear it all day long and afterwards sprinkle all of them with talcum powder)

The door has the inscription of "Brauseraum" a very old fashion designation for showers (my kids wouldn't know what a Brauseraum is they would think there is Brause in it.)

Awesome photos, Picanha! That phone booth strikes me as somewhat bizarre though. Who were they supposed to call in that nuclear desert above the surface?

I'm also sceptical maybe it was not originally included there. But these yellow booths (aswell as most phone booths btw) don't exist anymore since IDK 30 years?

So maybe you could try your luck reaching your nuked relatives by still working landlines?

I know that during the CW lots of companies and especially the public ones were involved (some more some less) in civil defense, so maybe the Post lines had some secret hardening? ?

Well, at least the old Post lines were EMP proof. No fancy electronic switches and converters that could get fried but simple analogue technology. However, much of the related infrastructure to operate the phone network would have been blown to bits and pieces.

Its in German but there are many pictures also of abandoned mines and other bunkers.

Armée de l'Air Command Post bunker it belonged to a NATO network but I can't figure it out at the moment. There are more bunkers in Belgium I presume from the same network.

It is 50 meters deep in rocky ground and has a 300 meter long access tunnel. It is also protected by blast barriers supposed to break the nuclear blast.
