Why call A-4 Skyhawk is Scooter?
Also called the Mongoose, Tinkertoy and Heinemann's Hot Rod. The Skyhawk was simple, easy to maintain, nimble and despite it's small size was designed to deliver a nuclear bomb load. The "scooter" nickname came about from it's pilots who loved the little subsonic jet. The pilot sits well forward and the little fighter just "scoots" around the sky

The A-4 was shorter by 8 feet, about 2 feet taller and had a larger wing area due to being a delta 260 sq feet v 186 sq feet.
