The Dardanelles cost Churchill his job at the Admiralty and in May 1915 he found himself demoted to Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. Frustrated at his inability to further influence events, he resigned from the government in November and went on to serve on the Western Front. Here, he is pictured in December 1915 with General Fayolle, the French general commanding the 33rd Corps.
