He was the son of Henry and Mary Ann of Leigh . He was born in Leigh and he is at rest in Leigh Cemetery, Lancashire. Some notes from his army record. He joined up on the 22nd December 1914 aged 20 and 235 days. He was living at 22, Sportsman Street, Leigh and he was by occupation a collier. He was posted to join the 11th Gordon Highlanders in Aberdeen, on the 3rd February 1915 he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion, andn the 3rd February he was posted to the 1st Battalion. He embarked Southampton on the 1st April 1915 with the 1st Battalion and joined he unit in the field on the 6th. While at the front he received a shrapnel wound in action to his knee at Brandhoek, Belgium and he was treated the same day at 8th Field Ambulance, Casualty Clearing Station, then also on the same day to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Camiers. He was later transferred to England on the 7th October 1915. On the 19th October 1915 he died of his wounds at University College Hospital, Gower Street, London.
