The above image is of Sergeant (no rank shown) (Medal Card shows Sgt). 40496 Henry CROXTON, Royal Field Artillery. In France of the 6th November 1914. He was the son of Richard and Ellen of New Road, Uttoxeter. Born at Leigh near Uttoxeter Staffordshire.

The poppy Cross id for, Private 10634. Thomas CROXTON. Sherwood Foresters. Born 25th October 1884 died in the battle of Ypres, 28th April 1915 as Private 10634. Native of Leigh, near Uttoxeter.
At rest in Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 28th January 1908 aged 23, occupation, farm labourer. He lived with his parents, Richard and Ellen at 10 Market Street, Uttoxeter. Served in India from the 5th January 1909 to 2nd October 1914. September 1913 he was in sanitation at Bombay. Posted to the BEF, France, 4th November 1914, 1st December 1914 suffering from frost bite sent to England from 8th General Hospital on Hospital Ship, St Patrick. Discharged fit for duty in France 11th December 1914. Killed in action on the 28the April 1915.
Commemorated on a Poppy Wreath at Uttoxeter War Memorial, 8th November 2015.
The uniform he is wearing is of the Royal Horse Artillery, another photograph has been found for this soldier on Ancestry, stating that he was with the Sherwood Foresters. The headdress both soldiers are wearing is called the Brodrick Cap. I can now confirm that the other image is of a soldier of the Sherwood Foresters wearing the same cap and infact his the brother of the above who was Sgt Harry Croxton, R.F.A..
