Born 1898 at Kensington to Charles James and Anna Maria Mathew nee Cassidy. 1901 residing at 217 Gloucester Terrace, Paddington, London with his parents and siblings. 1911 aged 12 a boarder at Oratory & Schools, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham

Sir Theobald MATHEW. K.B.E., M.C. of 2 Cranley Mansions, Gloucester Road, Kensington, London. Died 29 February 1964 at Middlesex Hospital, St Marylebone, London. His effects went to Dame, Phyllis Helen Mathew, widow

Citation to his Military Cross dated 16 September 1918 -
“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer led a raid with dash and ability, its success being largely due to his leadership and example. When one of his sections was held up a machine-gun, he rushed it from the flank, putting the gun out of action and killing the gunner."

This memorial flag was on display at the World Fallen (Temporary) Memorial on the 11 November 2018 at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire
