Sydney Harold BANKS-SMITH. Air Mechanic, 1st Class 2884, Australian Air Force died 3rd July 1918 aged 26. Son of Harold and Florence A. Lodge Banks-Smith, of Nelson St., Gordon, New South Wales. Born at Cundletown, At rest in Leighterton Church Cemetery, Gloucestershire.
Some notes from his army records
He joined up on the 30th August 1915 into the 5th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps as Private 2967. He was later attached to 2nd Australian General Hospital, On the 6th August 1917 he was transferred to the Australian Flying Corps at Wendover from France
On the 3rd July 1918 he was a passenger, armourer in the plane. The pilot was diving onto a target when he crashed into the ground, he died at the scene
