Extended Description
died 29th November 1918 aged 32. He was the son of George and Mary Ellen and he was the husband of Marguerite of 16, Townson Street, Hulme, Manchester. He was born in Knutsford. He is at rest in Knutsford Cemetery, Cheshire. "He answered his country\'s call"
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 10th December 1915 and was posted to the army reserve aged 34, he gave his occupation as a carter. He lived with his wife Marguerite nee Calvert at 16, Townson Street and his son Sydney who was born at St Mary\' Hospital, Manchester on the 29th August 1911. They were married on the 11th April 1909 at Knutsford. On the 1st March 1916 he was mobilized and posted as private 33640, to the 22nd Depot of the Manchester Regiment. He embarked for France on the 26th June 1916 and returned back to England on the 6th October 1916. On the 25th March 1917 he was transferred to Army Reserve, Class W, and on the 18th July 1917 he was discharged from the army and no longer physically fit for war service. He was permanently excluded from liability under service reviews of exception, October 1917. He suffered from bronchitis which originated in September 1916 at Ginchy, France as the result of active service. He was eligible for pension for the 15th April 1917.
