Samuel ORR. Lance Corpora64162, 121st Field Coy, l Royal Engineers Ulster Division (U.D.)
Born 1895 to Samuel and Mary Orr. Irish 1901 census with his parents and sibling at 24 Ava Street, Ormeau Road, Belfast. 1911 with his married mother and siblings at 15 Church Street, Portaferry County Down, occupation carpenter. At the time of his death his parents were residing at Ferry Street, Portaferry.
Died 27 March 1918 aged 23 years of wounds received in action. His father was granted a war gratuity 6 June 1916 revised 16 August 1919.
Commemorated on a family memorial at Ballyphilip Catholic Churchyard, Portaferry, Northern Ireland. At rest in St. Marie Cemetery Havre France.
Notes from his damaged service records.
Enlisted January 1915 aged 21, posted to the army reserve. Mobilised to the Royal Engineers Depot, Chatham, Kent 2 February 1915. Embarked for France 4 October 1915. Date not known, shot in the head and arm. Treated in 2nd General Hospital Le Havre where his died of his wounds at 5.45pm 27 March 1918.
