Samuel Jamieson FITCHIE. Sub-Lieutenant. Royal Navy on HMS Arawa. Armed Merchant Cruiser Born 1917 to Robert H. and Agnes Fitchie nee Bowman. 1911 his parents were residing at 3 Ballyministra, Kilmood, County Down, Ireland. (CWGC note that his parents resided at Castlereagh, Belfast at the time of his death)

Died 12 October 1945 aged 28 years.

He served on HMS Awara which was an Armed Merchant Cruiser from 1939. The HMS Awara operated in China and the East Indies until 1941 when she was used as a troopship. Sub-Lieutenant Fitchie was unmarried and died of pulmonary tuberculois in Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast. His parents address was then given as Stormont View, Lower Castelreagh.

At rest in Killinchy Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Churchyard, County Down, Northern Ireland.
