Interesting photos! It looks like the terrain is not very favourable for tank war, visibility is poor because of the bush. Was it mostly like this?
 
Unfortunately, that's what it looked like - which is why it was always known as the Bush War! Visibility was very limited and large bore shooting quite a challenge.
Tanks suffered mainly due to logistics, not manouverability. The Ratel AFV was specifically designed for African terrain and fared much better, accumulating far more kills and a reputable reputation during those years...
