Percy Wilmot BROOKS. Captain, 1st Suffolk Regiment. Born on 12th December 1865 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia to Emma, nee Luke and Henry Brooks. 1871 he was residing with his mother and siblings at 64 Regents Park Road, St Pancras, London. 1881 aged 15 a pupil at Mill Hill Grammar School, Hendon, Middlesex. 1891 lodging at the home Mrs Elizabeth Caudy at Wind Hill, Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire. Occupation, brewer’s pupil. His parents for the same year were residing at Mount Grove, Greenhill Road, Hampstead, London, his fathers’s occupation, Australian merchant.
He married Florence Maud Haward 1 October 1901 at St Pauls Church, Hampstead, London. He was aged 35 years, Captain in the army, residing at 23 Winchester Road, Hampstead. She was aged 30 years residing at 17 Canfield Gardens, Hampstead.
9th September 1908 he collected a horse from the Tomalin Stables at Marsa and went for a ride along Via Casal Curmi. The horse shied and bolted. He fell to the ground and either hit his head on a sharp stone, or received a kick to the head. He was bleeding from the base of his skull when an ambulance wagon arrived and carried him to Military Station Hospital, Valletta, Malta but he was dead on arrival, he was aged 42 years. It was found that he has a fracture to the base of his skull. He left a widow in England and he had served in South Africa.
