- Norman Lionel GARRETT. Gunner 75373, 113th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Born 1891, youngest son of Job and Harriett, nee Sperink. 1901 to 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at London Road, Moreton in Marsh. 1911 his occupation aged 19 was a baker’s assistant.
14 December 1912 he married Maria Antibus Payne at Independent Chapel, Moreton in Marsh. Enlisted 9 December 1915 at Morerton in Marsh and posted into the army reserve. He previously served in H Coy, 5th Gloucestershire Territorials. 13 April 1916 he was mobilized to join the colours and posted to the Citadel, Plymouth Royal Garrison Artillery Depot. He embarked for France from Southampton 30 September 1916 disembarking the following day at Le Havre. 23 May 1918 he was admitted into 56 Field Ambulance Royal Army Medical Corps, 18th (Eastern) Division, Rouen France suffering from enteritis. Died of pneumonia at No 11 Stationary Hospital, Rouen, France, 9 June 1918 aged 27. His widow was granted a war gratuity 23 September 1918, revised 16 December 1919. 1920 his mother was residing at Oddfellows Terrace, Moreton in Marsh. His widow, now remarried, called Howard residing at Church Street, Moreton in Marsh.
Commemorated on his parents’ headstone in Chapel Cemetery (part of) Moreton in Marsh Cemetery, Gloucestershire. At rest in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France
