Bugler 16466 John Henry TURNER. 18th Company, Royal Engineers died at Malta on the 15th October 1882 from the effects of the 2nd Egyptian Campaign aged 16. In 1871 he was living with his mother, Rebecca, native of Truro, Devon, and sister Elizabeth at his grandfathers Samuel Langmaid home at Polperro, Cornwall. His father, Henry was not recorded as being at home on the day of the census, his mother's status is given as engineers wife. In 1881 he was stationed at Milton Barracks and New Tavern Fort, Kent aged 15 as Bugler (Sapper) Royal Engineers. He was born in 1866 at Polperro Cornwall . Also in 1881 his parents were living at 1 Pound Cottage Rope Yard Rails, Woolwich Arsenal with his siblings. His father was a sapper in the Royal Engineers. 1901 his father was out of the army and was a carpenter, still with his wife at 25 West Road, West Ham, London.
