Herbert Harry HUMES of Lilac Cottage, Stoke on Tern
Died at Copthorpe Hospital Shrewsbury 4 May 1954 aged 82.

Husband of Ellen nee Tew. In 1911 he was residing with his parents Frederick and Sarah Ellen nee Davies and his siblings at Mount Brook, Stoke Heath, Shropshire, his occupation farm labourer.

Some notes from what remains of his army records -
He joined up (embodied service) aged 23 years and 244 days on 7 November 1914 and posted as to 4 King’s Shropshire Light Infantry as private 2887. He was transferred 15 November 1917 to 472 Home Service Employment Coy as Private 269940 at Ripon. 13 October 1918 he was transferred to the King’s Liverpool Regiment posted to 7 Battalion at Park Hall Camp Oswestry with new regimental number 26872.

He was discharged to Class Z to his home at Mount Brook 2 April 1919. It appears that he did not serve overseas.

At rest at Stoke upon Tern St Peter Churchyard, Shropshire.
