The Heinkel He 112 was a fighter aircraft designed by Walter and Siegfried Gnter at Heinkel. It was one of four planes designed to compete for the Luftwaffe's first fighter contract, one that would eventually be won by the Messerschmitt Bf 109. It was the only one to come close to the 109 in terms of performance, but was more difficult and expensive to build. Small numbers were used for a short time by the Luftwaffe, and small runs were completed for several other countries. It remains one of the least known production fighter designs.
