Believe it or not, the original color chosen for the high explosive Mk 2 grenade was bright yellow so it could be instantly identified as explosive.
It was found, however, that in combat the yellow color made it easy for the enemy to quickly retrieve a thrown grenade and toss it back at the thrower, thus the color was changed to olive drab.
