George William WILLIAMSON

Group Captain GEORGE WILLIAM WILLIAMSON, O.B.E., M.C., who was born on
6 June, 1885, died on 14 January, 1963. He is at rest with his brother Thomas (Walter) in Dundonald Cemetery, County Down, Northern Ireland.
In 1914 he was called to service in the 2nd Battalion, Manchester Regiment, was twice wounded, twice mentioned in despatches, and received the Military Cross from King George V. He transferred in 191 5 to the Royal Flying Corps, qualified as a pilot, served as a test-, ferry-, and fighter-pilot, and attained the rank of Lt-Col. He retired from the service in 1935. At the outbreak of the Second World War he was recalled to military duties in the Production and Supply Department of the Air Ministry. He became Chief Engineer of the Air Transport Auxiliary. He retired in 1943.
He wrote a book called The Flight Mechanics Handbook
