Rifleman Frank Edward BAILEY No. Z/1351 Depot Rifle Brigade

Son of Mrs Mary Bailey, of Shrewsbury, husband of L F Williams (formerly Bailey), 8 Hammonds Terrace, Coton Hill, Shrewsbury.
At rest at Shrewsbury General Cemetery, Shropshire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 5th September 1914 and was posted to the Rifle Brigade aged 24 years and 182 days. On the 18th February 1915 he was posted to the 4th Battalion . He was in France and Belgium from the 18th February 1915 to the 2nd July 1915. On the 5th May 1915 whilst on guard duty in Belgium he was hit in the left side of his head by shrapnel. On the 7th May 1915 he was at No2, General Hospital Le Havre where he under went an operation. The shrapnel was removed together with a large piece of the Parietal and Frontal Bones. He was left with a large hole in the skull in the left side. Later he had a pulsatile swelling in that region. On the 2nd July 1915 he was transferred to a hospital in England (not named). On the 19th November 1915 after a medical board he was discharged to pension. He returned to his home at 8 Hammond Terrace, Bolon Hill, Shrewsbury where is wife Louisa nee Nicholls, whom he married on the 26th December 1912 at Ebenezer Chapel, Altham, Lancaster and their son Eric born 23rd April 1914, were living.
