Ernest Howard JEFFERYS. Cadet (Corporal) 747, 6th Squadron, Australian Flying Corps died 28th August 1918 aged 23. Son of Peter and Rose Elizabeth Howard Jefferys, of the Railway Station, Kuring-gai, New South Wales.
At rest in Leighterton Church Cemetery, Gloucestershire.
Some notes from his army records
He joined up on the 17th August 1914 aged 19, occupation, electrician. He was posted 2nd Battalion, Reinforcements. He was transferred to the A.F.C. on the 13th March 191
On the 28th August 1918 he was killed whilst flying solo in his Avro Le Rhone. No 9282. At about 7.25 am He was flying solo with another plane Avro 50L piloted by, Roy Lytton Cummings, (instructor) . Prior to the accident both planes were flying in opposite directions S.E. and N.E. Jefferys was flying N.E. direction and turning left , and collided with the other plane. Right wings of each plane coming into contact causing both planes to fall to the earth. Both pilots died at the scene
