Embassy of USA

Finnish Civil War 1918. Embassy of USA from St. Petersburg, Russia, trying to leave Russia. In photo a member of embassy attempting to cross frontline to White side.
Good bit of history there - did they get across and "join" the Whites?

They did and if they had any info about movement of Reds, i'll bet they passed that to Whites. They didn't join the Whites, just went to US. Embassy in St.Petersburg was closed by the 1919 and reopened in Moscow 1933 after recognition of Soviet Union by US.

Where did the US land during the civil war? I know the Brits came in around Murmansk and Odessa. Was it Vladivostok?

You mean now Russian civil war. That picture was taken when US embassy crosses the lines between Reds and Whites in Finnish civil war. But answer to your question about Russian civil war: Three regiments to Murmansk and Archangel (october 1918) and one division, some 8500 men to Vladivostok (august 1918) were engaged in combat against elements of the Red Guard and the Red Army. Last US troops left Russia in april 1920. Killed and wounded in Russia North Expedition 246/307 and in Russia Siberia Expedition 170/52

I'm with you! My Finnish history now takes a leap of about 100% I didn't know there was a Red/White thing going on in Finland - sorry about that!
