Alfred Thomas PHILLIPS. Private 15218 7th Gloucestershire Regiment. Born 1876, baptised at St Mary, Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Parents Arthur and Elizabeth Phillips. 1881-1891 residing with his parents and siblings at Didmarton. 1891, occupation, apprentice saddler. 4 May 1907 aged 29 he married Mary Ann Evans at St Lawrence Church, Didmarton, his occupation, saddler. 1911 residing with his wife and daughter, Ruby at Didmarton. Occupation, gardener, domestic. Died 8 August 1915. His widow was granted a war gratuity 30 October 1917. Commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey including Gallipoli.
Alfred Ernest BAKER. Private 7499, 1st Gloucestershire Regiment. Killed 9th May 1915 aged 29. Son of Obediah Baker of Oldbury on the Hill, Near Didmarton. Commemorated on the Didmarton village war memorial and also on the Le Touret Memorial, France
Hubert William WILLAVISE. Private 9724, 1st Gloucestershire Regiment, Killed in action in the trenches by the advancing enemy. 23rd October 1914 aged 19. Son of Joseph and Caroline Willavise, nee Mitchell of Kingscote, Gloucestershire. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
John Henry (Jack) WALLINGTON RMA/13748, H.M.S. Queen Mary, Royal Marine Artillery. Born 7th September 1896 at Didmarton, killed as a direct result of enemy action on the 31st May 1916 aged 19, body not recovered for burial. Son of Harry and Emily of Pike Cottage, Burton Hill, Malmesbury Wiltshire. Native of Didmarton. His father was granted a war Gratuity 27 February 1915 revised 7 June 1919. Commemorated on the village war memorial and also on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire
