ADAMS, Frederick Private 42278, 1st Worcestershire Regiment. Killed in action 28th March 1918. Resident of Cheadle and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme France.
ALLEN, John Candlish, 2nd Lieutenant, 24304, Auckland Regt, N.Z.E.F. Died of wound received in action 19.10.1917, age 43. Son of William Shepherd and Elizabeth Penelope , of Woodhead Hall, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Held rank of Major in Auckland Motor Reserve. Born at Sunderland, England. Buried Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium.
BAILEY, James, Private S/2203, 2nd Royal Sussex Regt. Killed in action at Richbourge Le Avone France 9.5.1915 age 25 at Richebourg L'Avoue. He had only been in France for six months. Son of Joseph and Harriett Bailey, of Green Hill, Rakeway near Cheadle, Staffs. He is commemorated on his parents' memorial in Cheadle Cemetery, Cheadle, Staffordshire and also on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
BARKER, Lewis, Lance Sergeant 20052, 1st York and Lancaster Regt, formerly 9816, North Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 23.8.1915, aged 41. Son of James and Emma, nee Salt. In 1891 his mother, then widowed, was living at Tape Street, Cheadle with her children. In 1911 he was in the army and stationed at 6, Regimental District, Whittington Barracks, Whittington near Lichfield, Staffordshire. He was the husband of Minnie nee Brough (who he married in Lichfield Registry Office 1909), 3 Plant Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Belgium.
BARNES, Ernest, Private 44424, 2nd Suffolk Regiment, formerly L/9516, South Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 1st October 1918. Son of William and Hannah of Majors Barn, Cheadle. He is buried in Masnieres British Cemetery, Marcoing, Nord France.
BARNINGHAM, George William, Gunner 123591, 109th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died 12.11.1918, son of the late George Barningham of Reath Richmond, Yorkshire, husband of Annie Hill (formerly Barningham nee Sudall) 11 Cross Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France. Some notes from his army records. He joined up at went to the R.G.A, Depot at Clipstone Camp 19th October aged 37. He gave his occupation as a coal miner and he was living with his wife whom he married in October 1906 at Marston on Dove, Derbyshire and was living at Tollgate, Town End, Cheadle. He was admitted to the General Hospital, Rouen, France 6th November 1918 and on the 12th November 1918 he died of influenza. His father was living at 3, Unity Grove, Harrogate on the 12th June 1919 (he died 24th April 1920). When his wife had to fill in and get signed, a declaration form that the army had sent her, she wrote that her father in law was living in Harrogate and her mother in law was not alive. His wife was awarded 42 shillings per week for herself and six children from 19th May 1919.
BENTLEY, Ernest, L/Cpl 12091, 7th North Staffs Regt, died at sea 1.8.1916, 22. Son of Ralph and Emma, of Trimpos, Dilhorne near Cheadle, Staffordshire and was working as a miners trammer below ground. Commemorated at Basra Memorial, Iraq, No army record survived for Ernest but one was found for his brother John. He enlisted on the 2nd March 1916 and was called up for service 18th April 1918as private 22078, Grenadier Guards. He gave his occupation as a coal trammer, his father as his next of kin and his age as 19yrs. He embarked Folkstone for Boulogne, France 1st November 1918 and disembarked the same day and on the 5th November 1918 joined the 3rd Battalion at the front. He and his regiment left France for England on the 7th January 1919 and he was discharged to Z.Class on the 6th February 1919.
BLOOD, Bernard, Lance Corporal 9420, 7th North Staffs Regt. Killed in action at Mesopotamia 25.1.1917. Son of Joseph and Mary Jane nee Critchlow of Peel Street, Wolstanton, Staffs and Grandson of Sarah Critchlow of Daisy Bank, Cheadle, Staffs, with whom he was residing in 1901. He was married at Dilhorne to May Bentley on the 28th November 1909. In 1911 he was living with his parents at 165 Duke Street, Fenton, Staffordshire and working as a saddler. His wife was at her parents home in Dilhorne with her son, Ernest Aubrey. Native of Longton. Buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
BOOTH, Charles, Private 17006, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regt) killed in action 3.2.1916, 35. Son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Booth, 56, Back Lane, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He is commemorated on a memorial in Cheadle Cemetery, Staffordshire. Buried at Y Farm Military Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, France.
BOOTH, Joseph Charles, C.Q.M.S 7527, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regt) died 10.6.1916, aged 60. husband of Winnie Booth, 9 Norfolk Road, Long Eaton, buried at Long Eaton Cemetery.
BOWERS, William Aubrey, Lieutenant, 5th North Staffs Regt. died of wounds at 20, Casualty Clearing Station, France on the 2.7.1916. Son of William Eli and Alice Bowers, of Caverswall, Staffordshire and husband of Vera Aimee Bowers of Caverswall Castle, Staffordshire. In 1911 he was a student at Oxford Home, Mape Street, Bethnal Green, London. He is buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery, Saulty France.
BRATLEY, Alfred, Private G/66013, Royal Fusiliers, formerly 36289, North Staffordshire Regiment, killed in action 9th October 1917 aged 20. He was born and lived in Cheadle, Staffordshire and was the son John Henry and Ann of 3, new Row, Cheadle Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium (Note military records show, BraTTley).
CAMWELL, James, Able Seaman, R/5408, R.N.V.R, Hood Battalion, Royal Navy, Died of wounds 56th Casualty Station on the 22.3.1919, from gunshot wounds to the abdomen and legs, compound fracture. His service history. Army Reserve 24/6/16 , Entered 18/7/17 , Draft for BEF 3/12/17, joined Hood Bn. 4/1/18-22/3/18 Date of Death. He was born 5th March 1877. Son of Isaac and Mary of Winnoth Dale, Croxden Staffs. (Parents natives of Freehay (1901 census) He was the husband of Fanny of Danford, near Tean, Staffordshire. Commemorated at Arras Memorial, France.
CHADWICK, John Wesley, Rifleman, 25/1685, 32nd Reinforcements Otago Infantry Regiment, D Coy 3rd, New Zealand Rifle Brigade. Died of disease in hospital 3.12.1918, age 27. Son of George H and Sarah Annie, nee Stonier of Toll Cottage, Harewood Road, Cheadle, Staffordshire and his occupation was a laundryman. Buried at Caudry British Cemetery, France.
CHANDLER, John William, L/Cpl 307238, Tank Corps, 15th Battalion. formerly 166563, Royal Engineers. Killed in action 21.8.1918, age 28. Son of Harry and Mary Hannah Chandler, 18 Victoria Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire, husband of Charlotte of Bank Top, Boundry, Cheadle Staffordshire, Buried at Bucquoy Rd Cemetery, Ficheux, France.
CLARKE, (Clark) Wilfred Amos, Private 10509 3rd Royal Fusiliers, killed in action 3/5/1915, 20, son of Alfred (rope maker) and Mary Clark, 15 Bank Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium
COATES, George, Private 11157, 6th Leicestershire Regiment killed in action 11th August 1915. Buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Belgium
Some notes from what remains of his army records. He was posted to Aldershot 29th January 1914 then to Belgium from the 29th July 1915 until his death at Ypres 11th August 1915. His records show that he was killed in action, the cause, rifle wound to the head (more like gunshot) After his death the army sent, to his brother Reuben of 49, Mill Street, Cheadle, Army Form, W 5080 Statement of Names and addresses of all relatives to the deceased that are now living. There were many. His father Thomas was in Cheadle Infirmary another brother Frederick Thomas also at 49 Mill Street other siblings, aunts around Cheadle and surrounding areas. An army record was found for Reuben who joined up 31st August 1914, aged 22yrs occupation Farmer and lodging at Great Gate, Hollington, Staffordshire. He was posted the same day to New Battalion North Staffordshire as Private 11738. He was discharged from the army after a medical board at Military Hospital, Devonport which found him medically unfit for further military service on the 24th November 1914 after serving 86 day. He was suffering from Chronic Cystitis He was married to Ellen nee Molloy.

CROFT, William Arthur, Private 31627, 7th Service Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment, formerly 9417 North Staffordshire Regiment, killed in action at Mesopotamia 25th February 1917 Son of Samuel and Harriet of Park End Cottages, Cheadle, Staffs Commemorated on the Basra Memorial Iraq.

DAY, George William, Private 23768 8th Royal Welsh Fusiliers, killed in action 11.4.1917. Son of Joseph and Annie Day, 76 Queen Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Cheadle Cemetery, Staffordshire and also on the Basra Memorial, Iraq. Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He enlisted 24th April 1915 at Stoke on Trent aged 19yrs and 4 days. His occupation was a colliery worker and his father was called Joseph. He joined up at Wrexham on the 30th April 1915. He embarked for Egypt, date not sated. On the 14th February 1916 he embarked Port Said and disembarked in Basra 28th February 1916. He received shrapnel wounds to his left knee on the 5th April 1916 and was admitted to 23rd Stationary Hospital. On the 23rd May 1916 he was invalided to India on Hospital Ship, Vita. The 6th June 1916 he was transferred to Egypt from Bombay on Hospital Ship, Assaye. He was in Bombay from the 1st January 1917 and left for Basra 6th January 1917 where he joined his unit and the 20th January 1917 he was killed in the field. He had six brothers, an Army record was found for Joseph Henry who enlisted on the 10th December 1916 as Private 4623, later 105006 Durham Light Infantry. He gave his occupation as an underground coal miner/shot lighter (explosives) for John Slater Ltd , New Haden Colliery, Cheadle, and his father was his next of kin. He was discharged for the army on the 27th March 1919.
DEAN, Edward Fallows, Private 10510, Royal Fusiliers, killed in action 29th May 1915. H e was the son of George H and Ellen of High Street, Cheadle Staffs. He is buried in Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, Nord France.
DURKIN, Michael Joseph, Private 202803 2nd South Lancashire Regt. Died 14.6.1917, 34, husband of Alice Ann Durkin, 82 Leek Road, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He is commemorated on the memorial of Mary Nutt and his wife in Cheadle Cemetery, Staffordshire and also on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres,West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

FOREMAN, Ralph Douglas, Private 9996, 21st Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps died, 22/10/1914, age 19. He was the Son of John and Charlotte Forman, of "Delamere", 16, St. Mary's Rd., Bournemouth. Mentioned in Despatches. Commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
GOLDSTRAW, Benjamin, Private 12140 9th North Staffs Regt. killed in action 13.8.1916, age 38. Son of Benjamin and Anne Goldstraw, of Whiston, Staffordshire. Buried at Flatiron Copse, Cemetery, France.
GOODWIN, John Stanley, 2nd Lieutenant 1st North Staffordshire Regt, Formerly Royal Engineers, Attd 22nd Bn. Killed in action 28.3.1917,age 24. Son of John William and Jessie Goodwin, Durham House, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Enlisted into the R.A.M.C. Jan 1915, Gazetted Jan 1916. Commemorated at Arras Memorial, France. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined the army at Chatham, 20th August 1915 aged 22yrs and 10 months. He was a pharmacist by occupation and served in the R.A.M.C.(T). He was promoted as Corporal to the Chemical Section 20th August 1915. He embarked for B.E.F., France 30th August 1915 to 27th September 1915 and then 16th January 1916 to 19th January 1916. He Served in France as Sergeant 113184, Royal Engineers. Memo dated 17th January 1916. Sergeant J.S.Goodwin was sent overseas to join Depot Specials Companies, B.E.F. and that he was unaware that he has been granted a commission. Signed Capt, J.W. Blyth, R.E.

HAWLEY, George, Private 37201, 7th South Staffs Regt Killed in action 27/07/1917. He was the son of John and Mary Ann of Kingsley Green, Kingsley, Staffs and brother of Job, who also fell. He also enlisted at the same time as Job. Buried at No Mans Cot Cemetery Ieper Belgium.
HAWLEY, Job, Private 37200, 7th South Staffs Regt died 4/10/1918. Son of John and Mary Ann of Kingsley Green, Kingsley, Staffs and brother of George who enlisted at the same time and who also fell. Commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois- Memorial, France.
HEYWOOD, Robert Myles, Lieutenant 3rd The Buffs (East Kent Regt). Died of wounds 15.2.1915, age 31. Son of Robert and Annabel Crook Heywood of Hales Hall, Cheadle, husband of Barbara Heywood of Hoghton Tower, Preston Lancs. He death is all more sade inasmuch as he was only married seven weeks. Buried at Poperinghe Old Military Cemetery, Belguim.
HOWLETT, Ernest, Sapper 143652, 64th Field Coy. Royal Engineers. Killed in action 12/10/1916 aged 19. He was the son of Alfred Bernard and Lizzie of 29, Queen Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He was a silk weaver aged 14. He is buried at Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.
HOYLAND, Enoch Edgar, Wheeler 56086, C Bty, 103rd Bdg, Royal Field Artillery. Died 30.7.1916, age 19. Son of Jonathan and Ellen Hoyland, 62 Cheshire Street, Market Drayton, born at Cheadle, Staffordshire. Buried at Peake Wood Cemetery, Fricourt, France.
HOYLAND, George, Private 45918, 1st Leicestershire Regiment, died 04/07/1918 aged 28. He was the son of George and Elizabeth, who in 1911 were living at 35, Lid Lane, Cheadle, Staffordshire and he was working as a printers compositor. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Cheadle Cemetery, Staffordshire. He is buried at Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.
HUGHES, Charles Alfred, Drummer 29928, 2/4 East Lancashire Regt. formerly 35815, North Staffordshire Regiment. Killed in action 3.8.1917, age 19. Son of Charles Ralph and Asneth Hughes, 12 Belgrave Road, Dresden, Longton, Staffordshire. Buried at Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium.
HURST, Arthur, M.M. Cpl 4994, 10th Essex Regt. Killed in action 23.10.1918, 32, 32. Son of Jabez and Mary A of 50 New Street, Cheadle Staffordshire, In 1911 he was working as a gardener for Mr Mellor at Farley near Alton Towers, Staffordshire. He was the husband of Marguerite Ruth Hurst, 8 Mont Moni, St Sampsons, Guernsey. Buried at Highland Cemetery, le Cateau, France.
JOHNSON, Rupert Bernard, (Memorial has B Johnson) Private 43747, 1/5th South Staffordshire Regiment died 29th September 1918 aged 22. He was the son of Philip and Margaret of Town End, Cheadle, Staffordshire, He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
KEATES, Frederick, L/Cpl 7471, 1st siege Coy, (Royal Monmouth) Royal Engineers. Died from the effects of gas 21.5.1916, age 25. Son of William and Mary Keates, 14 Cecilly Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire, husband of Nellie Keates, of 22 Nunn Street, Leek, Staffordshire. Buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
KEATES, Frederick Thomas, Private 6444, North Staffs Regt died of wounds 30/4/1916. Son of Herbert and Elizabeth of Ashbourne Road, Cheadle, Staffs. Buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord France.
KIRKLAND, Robert, Private 20926, 3rd Garrison Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment, died 03/11/1918 (Screen Wall). Manchester Southern Cemetery
Notes from what remains of his army record. He attested 14th May 1915 aged 28 yrs and 11 months, a widower and lived at Hobs Lane, Cheadle with his children. He gave his occupation as a labourer. His next of kin was his daughter, Ethel May also of Hobs Lane. His late wife was called Annie nee Finney who he married at St Giles parish church in Cheadle on 3rd February 1895. He was admitted to hospital in Lucknow, India with Asthma on the 5th July 1918 and was invalided to England on the 5th September 1918. On the 22nd October 1918 he was admitted into the 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester where at 3-45pm he died of Pneumonia and Bronchitis.
KNIGHT, Francis Edward, Private 43366, 7th Lincolnshire Regt, (SDGW formerly 325328, Motor Transport, Army Service Corps). He was killed by friendly fire when his regiment were retiring from the battle in Houlhurst Forest and they walked into their own barrage 12.10.1917, he was aged 35. Son of the late Francis Edward and Anne Knight, 4 Back Street, Chapel Road, Cheadle, Staffordshire, husband of Isabella Martha, 2 Back Lane, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He was native of Skegness, Lincolnshire. His medal card shows he also served as private 50768, North Staffordshire Regt and no mention of being with the ASC (MT). Commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
LITTLEFORD, Joseph, Private 11137, 1st Leicestershire Regt. Died 7.6.1917. Husband of Mrs Elizabeth Wright, formerly Littleford, nee Mace from Stoke of 89 Mill Road, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Buried at Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, France. Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He enlisted on the 27th August 1914 at Stoke on Trent and was sent the New Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment at Aldershot as Private 11137, and transferred to 6th Service Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment and later the 1st Bn. He gave his occupation as carter aged 24yrs and 5 months. He had his medical at The Beeches, Cheadle 27th August 1914 where he gave his date of birth as 26th February 1890. His next of kin was his wife, Elizabeth of 89, Mill Road, Cheadle. He married his wife on the 8th September 1913 at St Giles the Abbot, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He received a gunshot wound to his shoulder on the 16th March 1916 at Rouen and was tended by 48th Field Ambulance. On the 17th he was taken to 19th, Casualty Clearing Station and the same day admitted to 16th General Hospital, le Treport. On the 10th April 1916 he was discharged from hospital to rejoin his unit in Etaples. The 7th June 1917 it was reported that he was killed in action in the field.
LOVATT, Kenneth Roy, Private 65586, 14th Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly 39449, West Riding Regiment Died whilst being a Prisoner of War in Lamsdorf Camp, Germany 5.12.1918 age 21. Son of Frederick and Hannah of Meadow Farm, Harewood, Cheadle. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Cheadle Cemetery. Buried at Berlin South-Western Cemetery, Germany (Formerly West Berlin).
MANNION, John, Private 10204, The Kings (Liverpool Regt). Killed in action 19.5.1915, age 21. Son of Mrs Sara Ann Dalkins, 5 Back Street, Cheadle, Staffordshire. Commemorated at Le Touret Memorial, France.
MARSHALL, Frederick, Sgt 203084, 9th North Staffs Regt. Died 12.9.1918. He was the son of Richard and Mary of Wetley Rocks, near Cheadle, Staffordshire and husband of Ann. Buried at Bertincourt Chateau British Cemetery, France. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 1st September 1914 as Private 203084, New Battalion, North Stafford. He gave his date of birth as 24th June 1892, aged as 22yrs and 69 days (army term, and still used) occupation collier of Wetley Rocks, near Cheadle, Staffordshire but at the time was lodging with Mrs Walker, The Green, Forsbrook, near Cheadle, Staffordshire. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 28th March 1916 and Corporal 29th December 1916 and 14th March 1917 to Sergeant. On the 8th July 1916 he was admitted to the 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester with a superficial bayonet wound due to training and was discharged 24 days later on the 31st July 1916. He served in France with the B.E.F. 18th July 1915 to 7th July 1916 and after leave in England from 3rd October 1916 to his death. He was married to Ann of 5 Hertford Drive, Wallasey, Cheshire and another address given was City General Hospital, East Old Swan, Liverpool.
MASEFIELD, Charles John Beech, M.C, Captain,C Coy, 1/5 North Staffs Regt. Died of wounds in German hands 2.7.1917, 35. Son of John Richard Beech, J.P. and Susan Masefield and husband of Muriel Agnes, of Lee Cottage, Chalbury Oxon. He was born in Cheadle and worked as a solicitor for Blagg, Son and Masefield, Church Terrace, Cheadle. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Cheadle Cemetery, Staffordshire and is buried at Cabaret-Rouge-British-Cemetery, Souchez, France.

Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up 11th December 1915 as Private 4063, 3/6th North Staffordshire Regiment. Occupation given as a corn dealer and lived at 79, High Street, Cheadle, he gave his mother as next of kin. He embarked Folkstone on the 3rd December 1916 and landing at Boulogne, France the same day. He joined his regiment the 2/6th Bn in the field and was deployed to A Coy on the 28th March 1917 as private 202454 and qualified as a signaller for the company. On the 21st March 1918 he was reported missing in action in the field.

He was born 27th February 1893 and enlisted on the 27th September 1914, and was living with his grandmother Elizabeth Prince at 1 New Row, Chapel Street, Cheadle. It appears that from the time he was born that he lived with his grandmother from 1901. He worked as an engine tender at a Coalmine, possible at New Haden, Cheadle, that was in 1911 and in 1914 he was a bricklayers labourer. His birth name was Fred. On an army form which his sister, Ellen Prince of the same address had to fill after his death, she gave his father as Walter Smith of Gun Hill, Cheadle, and his mother as being deceased. He had his medical at The Beeches, Cheadle, Staffordshire.

He was married to Liliy Louisa, nee Johnson, whom he married in 1903 at St Mary and St Chad, Longton and they were living at 213, High Street, Longton, Staffordshire. SALT, Bertram Thomas, Private 23888. 6th Platoon, 2nd Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Died 22.6.1916,age 20. Son of William and Hannah Janet Salt, of Lorne Heath, Tean Road, Cheadle, previously of Hawksmoor Cottage, Hawksmoor near Cheadle Staffordshire. He was working for Bolton and Co Limited Oakamoor, Staffordshire making copper washers. He enlisted on the 10th May 1915 aged 19yrs and 7 days at Wrexham. He joined up on the 10th May 1915 at Wrexham aged 19yrs and 7 days. He was living with his parents at Hawksmoor Cottage, Hawksmoor, Staffordshire Limited, Oakamoor. His parents later moved to Fairfields, Threapwood near Cheadle. An internal letter, dated 1st August 1916 gave a brief description of the death of Bertram. The Officer Commanding the Battalion stated the Private Salt "was in one of our trenches which was blown up by an enemy mine." His body has never been recovered and nothing further is known concerning him. His mother received a letter from a Private George Moon who was in the same battalion as him, and he witnessed the trench in which Bert was standing getting blown up.

He was 18yrs and 10 months, lived at 11 Bank Street, Cheadle with his mother and step father William Percy Alcock and occupation as Banksman. He gave his next of kin as his step father.
WEDGWOOD, Cecil, DSO, Major, 8th North Staffs Regt. Died 3.7.1916, 53. Son of Godfrey (a Potter) and Mary Wedgwood of Staffordshire, husband of Lucie, nee Gibson who he married on the 18th July 1888 at St Giles church, Camberwell, Southwark and was living in Woodhouse, Cheadle, Staffordshire. He was a Potter and part of the Wedgwood Potteries of Stoke on Trent. At the outbreak of the war he raised the 8th North Staffordshire Regiment. His body was found and identified by James Leather, a 21 year old bandsman and stretcher bearer. He is buried at Bapaume Post Military Cemetery, Albert, France.

Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 18th December 1915 aged 18yrs and gave his home address as The Oaklands Cheadle, Staffordshire and occupation as Farmers assistant. He joined the 3/3rd South Midlands Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. On the 4th June 1917 he received a shell wound to the head and was admitted to New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Hazelbrouk and died of his wounds the next day, 5th June 1917.
