Charles McCORRIE (Victoria Cross)

Extended Description
In memory of Private Charles McCORRIE, V.C. who died in Malta on the 8th April 1857 aged 27 and is buried in this cemetery. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry in action during the siege of Sebastopol. He was born in Killead County Antrim, Ireland served in the 57th Regiment (Middlesex Regiment) Fought in the Crimean War.
London Gazette dated 24th February 1857,
Citation.
Private 1971 Charles McCorrie 57th Regiment. On the night of the 23rd June 1855 he threw over the parapet a live shell which had been thrown from the enemy's battery.
