Cafe Gondree, located just past Pegasus Bridge on the south side of the Orne River, was the first piece of French soil to be liberated by Allied troops.
This picture was taken by a buddy of mine during his recent visit. Mr K Graham
Another great pic Bomber, your friend has taken some really nice ones. This is another place on my list of sites to visit someday. It's also the place where the first Allied soldier of D-Day was killed, Lt. 'Den' Brotheridge, as the Ox & Bucks assaulted from their gliders. He's buried in the CWGC cemetery at Ranville. RIP.
