Extended Description
Borivaj SMID. Sergeant Pilot 788527, Royal Air Force stationed at RAF Hullavington. Born 24th September 1918 died 29th May 1951 aged 32. At rest in London Road Cemetery, Chippenham, Wiltshire.

He was the pilot of a Wellington Mk.X RP382 from No 1 Air Navigational School, RAF Hullavington. On 29.5.1951, the plane crashed 1 mile east south east of Grittleton, during night navigational practice. The aircraft was from RAF Station at Hullavington and 2 of the 3 occupants were killed, the third being seriously injured. The two who died were the pilot, Sgt Borivaj Smid (788527) and Officer Cadet John Lindsay
(4043379) Officer Cadet Philips, the third member of the crew received severe injuries and was taken to the RAF hospital at Halton, Buckinghamshire
