Bernadine Theresa McMAHON. Nursing Sister WFX22075, AANS attached to 2/7th Australian General Hospital, Lae, New Guinea.
Born 15 May 1915 Boulder, Western Australia to John and Bridget Theresa McMahon of Mount Lawley, Western Australia.
Died at 1845 hours in Heidleberg Military Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria of aplasia bone marrow 3 September 1945 aged 30.
At rest in Springvale War Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Notes from her service records

Enlisted 26th October, 1942 at Claremont Western Australia aged 27 and posted same day to 118 Australian General Hospital, Northam, Western Australia. Transferred the 05 November 1942 to 110 Australian General Hospital Hollywood, Western Australia sometime called Wembley, being close to Wembley W.A.
23 March 1943 seconded to the Australian Imperial Force from AANS for overseas postings. Some of her records are missing from 23 March 1943 to 01 January 1945.
01 January 1943 a report into an accidentally injury. She sustained a laceration to her right thumb. An investigation was not held.
18 January 1945 reallotted for duty to 2/7th Australian General Hospital, Lae, New Guinea
04 March 1945 embarked from Sydney on ship Charon for Lae, New Guinea. Disembarking Lae 11 March 1945, posted to 2/7th A.G.H.
The following is to do with her being evacuated from various places and her death.
At some stage she fell ill with a serious infection called Puroura. (Purpura is small, flat spots on your skin.) whilst nursing at 2/7th A.G.H
12 August 1945 place on the seriously ill list with the Purpura). The following day, 13th she was evacuated by plane from Lae to 2/14 A.G.H landing at Townsville the same day.
14 August 1944 evacuated to 2nd Australian Women’s Hospital, Yeronga, Brisbane, Queensland
16 August from 2. A.W.H and admitted into 115 Heidleberg Military Hospital, Melbourne. Her illness was written down as ATLASIA BONO MARROW. (Auth, a search for that disease did not show any results, the nearest was APLASIA BONE MARROW which is a life-threatening condition)
17 August 1945 placed on the seriously ill list.
27 August 1945 placed on the dangerously ill list.
03 September 1945 died at 1845 hours at Heidleberg Military Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria.
